The three sectional staff, according to legend, had been created purely by accident. As legend tells us, a Shaolin staff-fighting master one day had broken his staff into three separate pieces. Using his ingenuity, he linked the pieces together with chains, and slowly transformed his staff fighting technique into a new weapon. This new weapon required great skill and coordination. The three sectional staff proved to be an extremely effective combat tool because of its ability to be long and short, as well as hard and flexible.
