Description

The "Sam Ghet Gwun" or three sectional staff is one of the most unique and versatile weapons of traditional Kung Fu. The three sectional staff, according to legend, had been created purely by accident. As legend tells us, a Shaolin staff-fighting master one day had broken his staff into three separate pieces. Using his ingenuity, he linked the pieces together with chains, and slowly transformed his staff fighting technique into a new weapon. This new weapon required great skill and coordination. The three sectional staff proved to be an extremely effective combat tool because of its ability to be long and short, as well as hard and flexible. This weapon can take on the attributes of a staff, a whip, a flail, and a double weapon. Ultimately, what makes this weapon so special is its element of surprise.

This particular weapon form is presented by Sifu Paul Koh. It was personally choreographed by Master Tak Wah Eng for Sifu Koh, and embodies all the knowledge that he had acquired over the past four decades.
