Description

Having a martial arts background, Joshua Swanagon has done some training with the karambit and is a fan of ring style knives and their prowess in combative applications. However, also being an avid outdoorsman, he has found them to be less than ideal as field utility blades. So he set out to make a knife that could combine those disciplines and decided to call it the C.U.T. 4.0 (Combat Utility Tool). It is a combative, ring-knife with a utility style blade for field use. The curved handle and ring of a karambit provide superior comfort during combative use, and a traditional drop point blade profile is ideal in the field. The aggressive tip provides for maximum penetration during combat, allowing the C.U.T. 4.0 to penetrate body armor and heavy clothing much easier, while also being useful for drilling chores during fieldcraft tasks. The C.U.T. 4.0 was designed with professional personnel in mind, but will also make a great EDC for civilians and martial artists who like the diversity of a dual purpose knife. Bio: Joshua Swanagon has studied survival in both urban and wilderness environments in Colorado and Michigan for most of his life, while also adding experience in harsher terrains abroad. He utilizes his experience and years of diverse martial arts and combatives training and real world application as a self-defense/combatives instructor, published freelance writer and Field Editor for various magazines in the fields of knives, survival, self-defense and tactical subject matters.

Description

C.A.T. #200S-04 Coyote Tan blade with Green Canvas Micarta handles and our NEW Rocky Mountain Bull's-eye. Introducing the C.A.T. S-Series. The Covert Anti-Terrorism series includes some of the earliest models TOPS ever produced, and they have been in service ever since. The updated colors on the S-Series are perfect for outdoorsmen who aren't necessarily looking for a tactical knife. At the same time, the new colors are still great for our military men and women serving in desert environments. The tan blade, green handles, and Coyote Tan Kydex sheath will blend in with desert colored uniforms and equipment. Since it comes with our Rocky Mountain Bull's-eye handle scales, it will look and perform superbly. The C.A.T. has been carried by military and law enforcement personnel all over the world. While the original purpose for the model was specifically tactical, it has found its way into the hands of many outdoorsmen, hunters, bushcrafters, and campers. It is small, strong, highly versatile, and easy to use and maintain. The design allows for good penetration and slashing cuts as well as a multitude of EDC/wilderness uses. The Kydex sheath helps maintain a low profile and has a rotating clip so it can be worn in multiple carry positions.

3. Tops Knives El Chete Knife

Feature

Acid Rain Blade Finish
Rotating Spring Steel Clip
17.5 Inch Overall Length
1095 RC 56-58 Blade Steel
29.5 Ounce Knife Weight

Description

How does TOPS define destruction? El Chete. This blade was designed with one thought in mind... chopping. With a 1/4" thick blade that is a full foot long, it will do that very well. Even though it's so large, the knife still weighs in under 2 pounds. El Chete is the first TOPS knife to be released with our wicked new finish called Acid Rain. Because of the process we use, the finish varies slightly from knife to knife so that each person gets something unique. We wanted the handles to be thick enough to fill each user's hand like a hatchet or small ax handle would, so we decided to use sandwiched Micarta. It's well rounded for comfort and the black canvas Micarta underneath the green canvas Micarta adds even more to the aesthetics of this piece. The sheath is an out-the-front design with all the bells and whistles. You just pull up slightly then out the front so that you don't have to strain to pull the knife all the way up through the sheath. There is a strap that when snapped into place, helps immensely with the retention of the blade. If you're in the market for a large knife, you've definitely found it.

Description

Puukkos are a style of knife originally developed in Scandinavia. Through the years, they have remained largely unchanged. Characteristically, they are Scandi ground knives with thick, round wooden handles. Most do not have a finger guard, which allows the person using it to get their hand as close to the cutting edge as possible. This gives the user very precise and controlled cutting. Its simplistic design is both useful and intuitive and has definitely withstood the test of time. To make the Tanimboca Puuko, TOPS has teamed up with Goran Mihajlovic. Goran is originally from Serbia but grew up in Germany. He has lived in Colombia now for the last 20 plus years. He owns a nature reserve called Tanimboca that houses hundreds if not thousands of species of plant, animal, and insect. Throughout his entire life, he has been a knife user and enthusiast. In recent years he has begun making knives at his forge in the Amazon jungle. He prefers Puukkos for their ability to perform well at large variety of cutting tasks. The TOPS version of his design mixes traditional elements with TOPS' style. It has the classic Puukko blade with a very slight clip point. The spine is ground to 90 degrees for scraping tasks. Well-rounded Tan Canvas Micarta handles with red liners honor the traditional style. The knife sits deep in the leather sheath. Add a breakaway chain or paracord and it can easily be worn as a neck knife when needed. Once you get your hands on the Tanimboca Puukko, you won't want to put it down.

7. Tops Knives B.O.B. Brothers of Bushcraft Knife w/ Black Handle

Feature

Overall Length: 10"
Blade Length: 4 1/2"
Blade Material: 1095 High Carbon RC 56-58
Black Canvas Micarta Handle
Sheath: Black Kydex

Description

The Fieldcraft Knife was designed by The Brothers of Bushcraft, a coalition of men across North America focusing on sharing wilderness living skills of all categories. From tracking, to building shelters, the Brothers of Bushcraft make it a point to show the skills to all people, of all ages, from all over. The Fieldcraft Knife is the culmination of their knowledge, combining experiences from; the broad and humid rain forests, the arid and scorpion-littered deserts, and the frigid northern lands that span the Americas. The handle is one of the most ergonomic ones on the market, sporting several useful additions. Although knives with a lot of frills often end up lacking, the additional items found on the Fieldcraft knife were selected from experience and critiqued in every step of design, development and production. Being made of canvas micarta, the handle will never let you down. The bow drill divot on the handle is frictionless and makes starting those primitive fires almost effortless. The "Thumb Scallops", formed on the hilt of the handle offer more comfort and control when using specialized carving and skinning grips. The pommel of the blade is simply the tang of the knife exposed enough to allow impact from a baton to not effect the handle (though the micarta is definitely tough enough to take such abuse). On the exposed pommel, you will find a scraper specially designed by one of The Brothers of Bushcraft, for striking Ferro rods in a safe and efficient manner. The Fieldcraft knife has had heavy duty abuse, and testing done in the wilderness of Canada, where local survival experts Mors Kochanski, Dr. Gino Ferri, and many others have deemed her a "Serviceable Field Knife". These words are exactly what she is meant to be. The TOPS Knives/Brothers of Bushcraft Fieldcraft Knife will do just about any chore that you can throw at her in a wilderness survival scenario.

Feature

Overall Length: 10"; Blade Length: 5 1/4"
Blade Material: 1095 High Carbon Steel, 56-58 HRC; Blade Thickness: .19"
Blade Finish: Tumbled; Handle: Green Canvas Micarta
Sheath: Black Kydex; Weight: 9.4 oz. w/out Sheath, 12 oz. w/ Sheath
Designer: Joe Flowers; Made in the USA

Description

The purpose of the Brakimo (pronounced BRAH-key-moe), designed by Joe Flowers, was to be a backup to a machete or to serve as a main camp knife. He runs a survival school of sorts called Bushcraft Global, which takes people of all skill levels into the Amazonian jungle to teach them survival skills. Not just skills specific to the jungle, but a mindset that will serve people regardless of location. He needed a knife that could be the flagship knife of the company and has designed the Brakimo to fit that need. It has a fairly wide blade profile combined with TOPS' modified Scandi grind that gives it great cutting and splitting power. The tip narrows dramatically to make it useful for drilling holes for bow-drill fires, blow gun mouth pieces, traps, etc. The simple design is perfect for many different uses. Made with 1095 high carbon steel, it's easy to maintain the edge while out in the field. We found through testing on the 2015 Bushcraft Global trip that by keeping it dry whenever possible, rust was not an issue. The word Brakimo comes from the Matis language (which is unwritten as far as we are aware). The Matis is a tribe found in Brazil that was uncontacted by the modern world until 1975-1976. The tribe has a unique way of life that would challenge the survival skills of any survival expert. If you're lucky enough to participate in a Bushcraft Global adventure, odds are that you'll get to meet one of these extraordinary people and learn a few of the skills they use to survive daily life in the jungle
