1. Rattlebacks - 5 Pack
Feature
We cannot honor tax exemptions.Description
A Rattleback is a half-ellipsoid object carved so that it will spin in only one direction. Accidentally discovered by archaeologists, this curious object was first dubbed a celt stone, named after the prehistoric axes and adzes they were studying. Idly spinning one of these ancient tools on the table, these scientists must have been surprised to discover that the seemingly normal piece of carved stone would spin freely in one direction but would reverse itself if spun in the other direction.2. Each one measures approximately 98mm or just under 4 inches.
Pack of 10
Description
The Rattleback is a long and thin half-elliptical shape formed in plastic so that it has a slightly offset center of gravity. This offset gravity causes the Rattle back to spin in directional rotation of choice, usually counterclockwise. If you attempt to spin the Rattleback in the clockwise direction, strong preference will cause the Rattleback to "rattle" back and forth after few rotations, stopping and then reversing the rotation back to the preferred counterclockwise direction. The directional preference is so strong that if the Rattleback is at a standstill and you push down on one end it will begin turning. Color may vary. Comes with Teacher's Guide.3. Spinning top
Description
These are highly polished solid metal flip over tops. They have a chrome like finish and are excellently machined. Simply spin it as normal and watch it suddenly flip over and then continue to spin upside-down. These flip over tops (often known as a The Tippe Top) were originally invented in 1950 by the Danish engineer Werner Ostberg. His inspiration can from a visit to South America where he had seen local people playing with a small, round fruit. When they turned it by the stalk like an old-fashioned spinning top, it would spin for a second and then invert and spin on the stalk. However some credit should be given to Helene Sperl who in 1891 patented a Wendekreisel in Germany. However the patent ran out and it was never mass produced. These tops are made from polished aluminium and are 29mm in diameter.4. RATTLE BACK from Tedco
