~~~HEIRLOOM VARIETY~~~ ***LILY*** (Perennial)(Zones 4-9) 'Mystery' or 'Naked Lady' variety. (Lycoris squamigera) 5 seeds/order. A unique lily variety that shoots foliage in very early spring. Foliage dies away, leaving nothing in it's place. Where did it go? In late July, a single shoot grows to 3' & bursts into bloom!! Astonishing...no foliage just stems of beautiful pink/lavender blooms!! ~~~LEVEL of EXPERIENCE NEEDED FOR THESE SEEDS: Moderate to Expert Experience~~~ I am a Master Gardener from Wisconsin (ZONE 4) & I want to share many of the perennials, annuals, herbs & vegs from my 3rd generation, organic yard with you. Many of my plants are heirloom varieties that have been on the property since 1940 when my Grandfather built the house. Many I do not have the true name for, just what has been passed down from Gramma, to Mom, to me. I owned my own greenhouse for 13 years & I will give you step-by-step planting directions with each purchase for the gardening amateurs. I gear my sales towards the common gardener, small scale, but I do have a couple 'Bulk' for larger scale enthusiasts.
Description
This unique flower sends its foliage in the spring and has lovely smooth green leaves into summer. those die away, and suddenly, in the late September/early October, seemingly overnight, a flower spike rises from the ground (or from the dead leaves, thus the "resurrection part of it all) and gives you a beautiful, showy soft pink flower. These are truly unique and a great gardening conversation piece. They will be shipped freshly dug as a bareroot plant. Perfect for early spring, summer, or early fall planting. Would not advise planting in the winter, of course. Remember that these are a live, bareroot plant. Please order them during a time of year that they can be safely shipped in non-freezing temperatures. All orders Daylily nursery brand and are grown here. 5. 3 PINK Spider Lily Bulbs Lycoris Squamigera
Feature
This is a spring foliage type and has been proven hardy to zone 5, maybe colder with mulch. Its natural habitat is the moist, wooded slopes of China. Blooms mid summer, earlier than the red Lycoris Radiata. It is believed to be a natural hybrid of Lycoris Sprengeri (the Tie Die Lycoris) and the robust growing Lycoris Longituba (white trumpet shaped flowers). The large pink flowers with faint blue tips make a wonderful cut flower.
It has naturalized throughout the Midwest and Upper South, where it is affectionately called the "Naked Lady" lily. For this reason it is often confused with Amaryllis Belladonna, which is the "Naked Lady" of the warmer and dryer Western US. If your winters are cold or your summers are wet, you want Lycoris Squamigera, not Amaryllis Belladonna.
Although tolerant of lengthy dry periods, it does best with regular moisture, even during summer dormancy. As with all Lycoris, I recommend that you plant shallowly, with the top of the bulb close to the surface. The top will remain dormant until spring, but planting earlier will give a chance for roots to establish themselves.
These full size bulbs are similar in size to a daffodil. Although we take care to send the freshest bulbs possible, it is common for Lycoris to sulk for a year or so after transplanting before gracing us with their summer blooms. This gives all the more reason to get them planted this year, rather than put it off for another year.
13. -!! VERY FRAGRANT! 20 bulb's of surprise lilys Lycoris squamigera
Feature
Flowering plant
Flower seeds
Flower
Easy to grow
Ships to United States.
Description
The leaves sprout and grow in the spring, then die back during June. Then in late July or early August the flowers appear. The flowers are white or pink and fragrant. The flowers spring dramatically from the ground in mid to late summer; it usually takes only four to five days from first emergence to full bloom;">Solid flower stalks, about 3/4 inch in diameter, emerge from the top of the bulbs six to eight weeks after the foliage fades. The flower stalks grow up to 30 inches tall, reaching full height in just a few days -- hence the "surprise" in the plant's common name. The six to 12 flowers that develop on the end of each stalk are pollinated by night-flying moths; those that are pollinated develop papery pods filled with small seeds. Gardeners interested in growing new surprise lilies from seed can let the pods mature, collecting and sowing them when the pods break open. Otherwise, cut the flower stems down at the base with a clean, sharp knife when the stalk begins to yellow.
