Description

Gram flour, also known as Chana flour, and especially popular in the name of besan among Bengalis, is used in smooth semi-liquid form while mixed with water or beaten egg to give a coat on different kinds of fries, ranging from potato, egg, fish, onion etc., and hence producing various kinds of fried food like pakora, bhajiya, chop, etc. As gram flour consists of carbohydrates, so it is not recommended for low-carbohydrate diets, but it goes well with gluten-free diets. Apart from its capacity to make enhanced fried items, it is also used as a facial exfoliate, especially popular among young women in India and Pakistan. It is prepared as a paste with water, or milk, or yogurt.
