Description

A superfood King, sun-dried coffee cherries (cascara) have 8x the antioxidants of blueberries, and more health-giving properties than acai and pomegranate. They also make a delicious tea (hot or iced), fabulous latte, and many versatile and exotic drinks. Coffee cherries are the fruit of the coffee plant, which hold the coffee "bean" inside. For some inexplicable reason, coffee farmers have never provided this "cascara" to the USA until recently, although the coffee cherry fruit has been enjoyed worldwide for centuries.

There are two main ways to enjoy coffee cascara, as dried flakes of fruit, or as a "tisane" or extract syrup, where a high concentration of delicious fruit is steeped in sugar to make the equivalent of "simple syrup". It's easy to use this syrup in all types of beverages. Its unique flavor profile has notes of honey, hibiscus, cherries and tamarind.

For a real, all-natural cascara latte, use 4 ounces espresso, 2 ounces half-and-half or milk, 1.5 ounces (3 tablespoons) Cascara syrup. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of frothed milk for the perfect finish.

The antioxidant value of Coffee Cherry (Cascara) Powder described in ORAC units is: 343,900 mol TE/100g. This places it in the top five foods known to man on most lists. We make no health claims for the product, but its value can easily be appreciated.

Ingredients: Coffee fruit, water, organic sugar, citric acid.
