Description

Uses/Culture: This native North American cactus is the only in the US hardy enough to grow as far north as New York. They make an a wonderful architectural landscape planting in areas with full sun and dry, sandy, well-drained soil. Their preference for poor and dry soils makes them useful for any difficult area that would otherwise require extensive soil amendments. Also useful for preventing soil erosion caused by wind and water. Suitable for use in containers and hanging baskets. Plant out of reach of pets or walkways to prevent close contact with sharp spines and glochids which can penetrate and lodge in skin. --------------------------------------- Germination Requirements: Refrigerate until use. For fastest germination, soak overnight in warm water just prior to sowing. Even in ideal conditions, germination can be slow, often 1-6 months. A 12-week period of cold stratification is not required but may improve results.
