Description

It is impossible to sum up in few lines the complexity and charm of Frida's life, but artist Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyocon, Mexico City, Mexico. Considered one of Mexico's greatest artists, her life was marked by physical suffering, started with the polio contracted at the age of five and worsen by her life-dominating event occurred in 1925. A bus accident caused severe injuries to her body owing to a pole that pierced her from the stomach to the pelvis. The medicine of her time tortured her body with surgical operations (32 throughout her life), corsets of different kinds and mechanical "stretching" systems.

Lots of her works were painted laying in the bed. Because of these physical conditions Frida could not have children and this was devastating for her. Kahlo later became politically active and married fellow communist artist Diego Rivera in 1929. During her lifetime, Frida painted the diary of her life. She created some 200 paintings, drawings and sketches related to her experiences in life, her physical and emotional pain and her turbulent relationship with Diego. She produced 151 paintings, 55 of which are self-portraits. When asked why she painted so many self-portraits, Frida replied: "Because I am so often alone....because I am the subject I know best."

These Purses, Wallets, and Coin purses are inspired by her work, some mirroring her self portraits, and others influenced by it.
