Description

A hardy perennial, asparagus tends to grow well in most areas. Plant in a permanent location since beds can be productive for 15-20 years. Needs loose, compost-rich soil. Plant crowns 18" apart in a trench 12-15" deep. As shoots emerge, cover with 2" of soil, continuing as the plants grow, until soil reaches the top of the trench. Trenches should be 4' apart. Plant in spring or fall/winter in mild climates. Harvest a few shoots the 1st year, allowing most spears to set ferns and direct energy back into becoming stronger plants. In the 2nd year, begin regular harvesting of the spears. Sold in bundles of 5 bare-root crown division
