Description

Marrubium vulgare is commonly referred to as Horehound. It is a perennial herb that has been used to make candy for many years. Gardeners often use Horehound as a companion planting around vegetables. It attracts beneficial insects. Start the seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Cover the seed with inch of soil and keep moist until germination occurs. With a temperature of 65F, germination is usually within 21 days. After danger of frost has passed and the plants have 2 leaves, they can be hardened off and permanently planted in the herb garden. Horehound is usually resistant to deer. Grow it in full sun and in well-drained soil. Do not over water it but let it dry out between waterings.
