Description

Achillea millefolium, or Yarrow, is a hardy perennial that is a favorite of many gardeners. It reaches 18 - 24 inches in height and the same in width, forming a nice clump. This Summer Pastel Mix has 3 - 4 inch flower clusters with pastel shades of pink, rose, orange-red, purple, gray, salmon and mauve. The flower clusters are long-lasting and make a great cut flower, and it dries well for use in dried arrangements. To dry, hang the Yarrow upside down in a well-ventilated, dark, dry room. Start Yarrow seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Press the seed into soil, lightly cover it and keep the seed moist. With a temperature of 68F, germination is usually in 21 days. Grow Yarrow in full sun. It prefers well-drained soil, and it is usually deer resistant. Space plants 16 inches apart. In areas with long growing season, Yarrow can be directly started outdoors after danger of frost has passed. It takes 90 days from sowing to blooming. Deadheading promotes continual bloom, and the clumps should be divided every 3 - 4 years to keep the plant healthy.
