Due to the matrix formulation of the hydrocolloid material, most of the gel is removed together with the dressing, resulting in little or no damage to the newly formed tissue. Cardinal Health Hydrocolloid dressings consist of a wound contact layer of hydrocolloids. The top layer is a semi-permeable, polyurethane film backing which allows circulation of O2, CO2 and water vapor, while excluding germs and water to protect the wound from external contamination.
