The manufactures of most hardside and softside waterbed mattresses recommend that you add 4 oz of conditioner every six months or 8 oz once a year. This conditioner is designed to keep the water fresh so lgae/bacteria does not build up in your mattress. The conditioner will also keep the vinyl and corners soft. If you do not use conditioner the vinyl will tend to dry & harden do to the powerful heating systems and age which could result in cracks or seam splits. Also you will get gassy air build up which will make the mattress uncomfortable.
