Description

Roger Frith (1936-2008) was the son of two professional singers, but chose to sing as a poet. He was best known as a writer for the radio and the theatre, with his plays, one-man shows and documentaries performed by actors such as Dame Judi Dench, Edward Woodward, Paul Scofield and Sir Ian McKellen, but the poetry was always dearest to him.Few people knew of it, but it impressed writers like Sir Arnold Wesker, Laurie Lee and Ronald Blythe. Always outside the mainstream of modern poetry, his work was only available in privately printed, limited editions. This wide-ranging selection is intended to bring his lyrical urgency and poignancy to the wider readership it deserves. Part of the 'Campaign for Real Poetry' (CARP) series.
